So, how does the movie end??
Cindy convinces Caroline to join her on a double-date, but Caroline doesn't enjoy it and feels guilty. At the diner she goes to find Adam - but he's been attacked by the two rapists, and stabbed. She takes him to hospital, and learns that he has a congenital heart problem and needs a transplant.
Adam still believes a story a nun told him at the orphanage that he has a strong baboon heart, and is worried that if it's replaced he will not love Caroline as much. She does her best to convince him otherwise.
Adam starts to come out of his shell, even shouting and cheering at an ice hockey game. Caroline is firmly in love with him as they're driving back. He falls asleep in the passenger seat.
They arrive back at his apartment ... but she can't wake him, he passed away silently.
After his funeral, Caroline goes back to his apartment and finds a present he meant to give her - his box of records. She smiles as she listens to them, happy to have known him.
